Yet again Irish racing is pulling out all the stops this weekend with some top class action around the country Friday nights sees the kingdom stadiums highlight of the year with the final of the greyhound and pet world kingdom derby it looks difficult to oppose hot fav and crowd fav in scarty lad who hasn't put a foot wrong and is bidding for his 8th win on the trot
Also on the night there are 9 other finals all sponsored by Kathleen and Dominic and some top class racing is assured on the night their will also be a 2 dog match race between travara princess and killahan panther the brain child of "hutchy" he challenged this recent big race winner owners to a match race worth 8 k to the winner there will be only one winner here with killahan panther winning by a proverbial mile and hutchy going home with his tail between his legs ..lol
The galway classic has lost some of its gloss with the withdrawal of tyrur gold during the week, the ante post fav looks to have picked up an injury and will be rested for a while but even still there are some top dogs still left in the event;in the first semi final the weaker of the 2 bar the devil looks nailed on to win after running poorly in the last 6 months he looks to be hitting form at the right time
the second semi brings together the 4 quarter final winners and should be a cracker of a race but my vote goes to mick savings to continue his unbeaten run through the stake either way it will make a smashing final on Saturday week
In head quarters the dog on every one lips at the moment will take the stage;skywalker ace is running out of superlatives to describe him and i really think this fella is the next superstar
there are good dogs running in the puppy derby but he is making them look like graders ...that is how good he is i don't usually talk up dogs but this fella is the business and i have taken some of the 4/5 for outright glory
In thurles the second round heats of the champion bitch stake takes centre stage;forest baby set the mark here last week with a classy 28.99 run well ahead of anything else on the clock and will take some beating if she continues to trap as well as she can
The ted hegarthy marathon is also being run in shelbourne park and to be totally honest i have no interest in this type of race 700/800 yard ok... but 1000 yd plus races for me don't do the dogs any good and don't float my boat either to be honest i was watching a race over an extreme distance a cpl of weeks a go on the tv and the dogs where nearly walking over the finish line!!!
