Kyle jack
Michael fields dog qualified at limerick and was set up for a gamble in his debut race.He missed his break though but came through to challenge before being fought. In his following trial he broke a metacarpal bone in a foot and rated unlikely to race again.
Ten months later and after a couple of trials was entered in the Austin stacks at tralee.
Though inexperienced jack won a heat and eventually qualified for the final,he found firts bend trouble and finished down the field behind whitefield boy
He then headed for tralee and cork to take part in the paddy byrne and the laurels reaching the semi finals of both but winning the laurels consolation
Jack returned to tralee for the harp lager stake he won the first round in 29.32 but was beaten in the final by the useful spargo who clocked 29.08 in the final
At that stage with the Irish derby imminent the early paced fawn picked up a kennel cough. After much debate the field family decided to give the dog his chance
Kyle jacks consistency was the hallmark of his Irish derby form.He reached the final unbeaten he won his first round in 30.51 from whiskey pond in 2nd.then followed 2 wins in 30.66 and 30.58 over burnpark pat and a semi final victory over margaos express in 30.53 in each case it was a case of trapped and gone.
Doubts over a shoulder injury and the 48 spots he had to find on ticos semi final form saw him go off at 8/1. In the final kyle jack rockets from traps and held off murlins slippy by 3 lengths in 30.41 it was his 13th win in 23 races and he was immediately retired to stud
