The recent edition of the greyhound star has thrown some light on the stud tables there are lots of ways to interpet a stud dogs success but I for one think floyd amphetts version of it hit’s the nail on the head
Droopys viera sired 270 odd litters with 610 open race winners
Top honcho had 210 litters with with 570 open wins
larkhill jo had 190 litters and 400 odd winners
Droopys kewell had 240 litters and and about 380 odd winners
Daves mentor about 75 litters and a massive 310 open winners
Hondo black had 100 odd litters with 260 winners
These figures where taken off a bar chart so they could be plus or minus 5 either way
The two for me that lead the way in this table are Hondo black and the massively underated
daves mentor
Now if you take an average size litter of 6 pups
Droopys viera 1620 pups=610 winners
Top honcho 1260 pups= 570 winners
Droopys kewell 1440 pups=380 winners
Daves mentor 450 pups =310 winners
Hondo black 600 pups=260 winners
when you take into account the quality of bitches the big 3 are getting compared to daves mentor the figures are astounding
For all the shouting about droopys kewell and viera and dare I say it top honcho
daves mentor with less than a third of litters on the ground compared to the big three has a far superior strike rate
The only down side to him I see is the notion that his offspring have a tendancy to fight and that they may be short runners
