ballymac macy did the business last night in the final of the donal j o neil sweep in tralee flying from traps in a brilliant 3.01 sectional this race was all over at the first bend the hot fav in 1 manic brett missed the kick and never really got into the race rusheen mentor ran on well to finish 2nd ,winning time here was 29.01,i have a feeling ballymac macy will be continuing his career across the water from now on and will win plenty with the early pace he has to the bend
The first round heats of the kasco puppy derby also took place on the card kick for touch was short odds to get the business done in the first heat but he tailed in last after trouble in the race and nearly falling independently around the last bend it looks like he has picked up an injury for his trouble the winner here was smearla honcho a progressive sort in 29.10
The second heat of the night looked a match race between droopys teabag and cashen pedro and that was how it turned out with both going head to head up the back straight it was a close call all the way with pedro finally getting the better of his rival on the run in to win by 2 lengths in 28.96
In the third heat of the night gerry houlihans cash dream was 6/4 fav and was well punted and the money was right he flew from traps and had a solo coming home alone in a quiet brilliant 28.55 on a night that was not conjunctive to fast times
In the final heat recent bar one fav ballymac tony was short odds to do the business but he had to settle for third in what turned out to be a scrappy enough race behind the shane murphy trained knocknagouan jim who clocked a decent 29.01
All in all a goods nights racing on a night where the weather didn't help proceedings there was a decent enough crowd and tg4 where there to record the action for greyhound view
footnote: how they can call this a puppy sweep beats me when you have dogs that have ran in the derby and with 30 races plus under their belts defies belief!!!
