kilhoran venture scraped through in third tonight in the second round of the red mills unraced champion stakes in kilkenny but i was very happy with his run he broke pretty well from trap 6 (not a trap i would want again in a hurry!!) and showed good pace up to the bend a 4.41 sectional according to the igb web site but i think this maybe an error on their part 4.51 would be more like it
The 2 dog and himself had a coming together here while both vieing for the rail and venture turned up the back in third he showed good pace to challenge between the third and 4th bend and it looked like he would go on from there and win handy but it very nearly all went wrong when he met some pretty bad interference and was almost brought to a standstill and it looked like good night irene but he got back into his stride and plugged on game enough to get third only beaten just over a length in a winning time of 30.03 and its a race where he wll have learned a lot from he also left a some time on the track so i wouldnt be unduly concerned with the clock i will give him the once over in the morning to check that all is well and hopefully he will be sound after his exertions
The times on the night in the other heats where a step up on the previous week and the sweep is definitly hotting up but I'm confident that there is a big run in our fella if he can get on the bunny but with 3 semi finals next week with only 2 to qualify from each there is no room for error but either way its another step along the way it started with 60 and its down to 18 and qualifying is the name of the game as the saying goes if your not in you cant win it and at this stage we are still in the game
