Brought my pup kilhoran classic... honcho classic-spring maeve up to banteer track today to have a little "look" at what goes on in the real world..lol
I let him watch a couple of trials from the infield and he took a nice interest he is still a real pup and will take some time to mature and come to hand but he is going the right way
I hope to give him a hunt in the next week or so if the ground softens up a little and then a couple of runs up the gallop after the drag before i hand slip him and then box him
I'm in no panic with him and like to give dogs plenty to time to mature and i like to have a dog chasing hard before i qualify them and not just going for the sake of it

hi.found a link to this blog while surfing the net and i have to say "well done",brilliant read.i have 2 pups myself but i'm only new to the game,so i was just wandering how old does the pup have to be before he can go to the schooling track in ballybunion or anyother for that matter.also what does hand slip him then box him mean.keep up this great blog.
flash thanks for the praise ...lol a handslip is when you take a dog to a schooling track and if the dog shows interest in chasing the hare you bring him on to the track and just let him go after it
box or trapping is when he has chased you put him in the box to get an accurate time
age to bring pups to the track vary on how big they are bitches can be started sooner than dogs but a general rule would be between 14/16 months
