old fashioned ways!!!

Ihave been doing a little reading lately and came across an article on feeding here is a little extract from the passage

The novice must learn to choose the correct foods necessary to provide meals balanced in carbs and protein of high class so as to make up a certain standard of calorific value
This will be seen in the balance of these things and the choice of green and root veg to supply vitamins and minerals salts. Here is two sample meals the contents of which make up the daily calorie intake for a racing greyhound at 60/65lb weight

First meal
1 egg
1/2 pint milk totally calories 190

The second and main meal of the day showing how the foods are balanced using two first class protein foods beef and ox liver to balance the carbohydrate main meal
1/2 lb lean beef @ 73 cal to ounce 8oz =600 cals
1/2 lb ox liver @ 81 cal to ounce 8oz=648
12 oz wholemeal bread @68 cal to ounce 12oz=816
one onion @ 4 cals to ounce 2oz =8 cals
8oz cabbage@ 2 cals to ounce 8oz=16 cals
2oz carrot @3 cals to ounce 2oz =6 cals
total calories 2094 plus first meal =2284 cals

The method of cooking the main meal of the daily diet is as follows
Place the amount of meat in the boiler together with a handful of pearl barley in a muslin bag.its the extract from the barley you want not the grain.
Put a small pinch of salt in the water also one medium size onion allow to simmer until tender about 10 minutes before its in that state add the green vegetables, grate the raw carrot finely cut up the stale wholemeal bread fairly small.when the meat is cooked pour off the broth allow to cool now put the meat ,greens, onion ect into a fine mincer if the broth is cool pour it over the bread add the meat and other things minced then sprinkle the grated carrot over it add two tablespoons of dried brewers yeast squeeze any broth surplus to soaking bread mix thoroughly to a constituency so you can stand a large wooden spoon upright in the food
the amount of mixed food to give a greyhound is one ounce of moist mixture for every pound of body weight of the dog e.g 65lb dog should receive 65oz food

An old book from what i can gather its over 50 years old but the diet has not changed that much..lol i wonder what the original writer would make of all the supplements on the market these days and the magical black tar...hmmmm
