Laurels 1st round

The laurels in cork got off to an explosive start last night with the ante post fav droopys robhino winning in style in a fastest of the night 28.08 less than a length outside ardkil jamie track record set last year. He was foot perfect flashing from traps and leading all the way to win going away by 8 1/2 lengths he will take some beating if he can continue to trap along the same lines as he did last night

In the rest of the nights racing there was a few other top draw performances including my ante post tip big time gent this enigmatic performer flew the lids and won in a fast 28.17 and could be knocking on the door come final night he returned a tasty 4/1 which i had some of!!!

tyrur lee in the first heat was disappointing after leading off the second turn clearwater jack picked him up very easy and left him in his wake i wouldn't be surprised if we see the withdrawal of tyrur lee come next week as there was clearly something amiss the winner clearwater jack looks and improving type

catunda harry another of the favs for outright honours did enough to win his heat winning in 28.29 but faded slightly on the run for home and will have to improve to stay in the competition

my other fancy ante post cherokee playboy ran very well in defeat in a messy race he did well to qualify in 3rd and is a type who could progress nicely through the competition

The derby form stood up well with both tyrur laurel and nawhobberthadda both winning their respective heats in decent style

In the 9th heat aptly named the "heat of death" two of the leading fancies hit the deck with the elimination of both scarty lad and eddie wades goldstar lee this was a big disappointment to both their followers with scarty getting in to all kinds of bother at the first bend and goldstar lee never got into the race at all

all in all a good night racing with a big crowd and i backed a heap of good priced winners although my biggest bet of the night went astray you cant win them all

roll on next week

yep the first bend in cork is tough but no tougher than most first bends i think in limerick they get more time to sort themselves out before they get to it
